GPX1 cDNA encodes the glutathione peroxidase 1 (sequence from human genome, NM_000581.2/CCDS 43091.1, 612 pb). This peroxidase enzyme is responsible for reducing hydrogen peroxide to water and contribute to the protection from oxidative damages.
